What we need to overcome the economic recession are, the creative destruction, the driving force of capitalism, and the entrepreneurs with the courage to fight the system. In this sense, it can be said that the most important issue for us is the encouragement of an entrepreneurial culture to foster the entrepreneurial spirit and startups.

In order for Asia to take the initiative to become the innovation base for the world, it is important to devise the means of attracting young entrepreneurs, not only from within a single country, but also from the rapidly-developing nations of whole Asia, and challenge them to make full use of their knowledge and technology. It is crucial to build an Asian network of entrepreneurship, from mentors, private institutions, and of course the entrepreneurs themselves.

For young entrepreneurs, getting together with peers from around the world to learn from each other, and to inspire each other, is a stimulating and valuable experience, which helps them build self-confidence necessary to overcome many difficulties and to succeed.

It is my hope that this Award will form part of an innovation creating project led by Japan in collaboration with other Asian countries, to create a network for entrepreneurship development attracting venture capitalists from Asia and the world, to contribute bringing together industry, academia and government, and to help build an “ecosystem” for Asian entrepreneurship.
