CONNEXX SYSTEMS CORPORATION

Hydrogen is considered as one of the most important clean energy sources for future. However, the use of hydrogen has been hindered due to its high flammability and difficulty of storage.
We propose to use inexpensive “ferrum” (= iron) powder instead of hydrogen as an energy source. Ferrum can produce hydrogen when oxidised. By utilizing this reaction, we have developed patented novel0 “Shuttle-SOFC” device that generates electrical power from ferrum. This device can store 5 to 10 times higher energy than conventional Li-ion batteries. With this technology, humongous social investment into the infrastructure for transportation and storage of hydrogen (such as long pipeline, high-pressure gas bomb or liquid hydrogen container) can be avoided. Since ferrum is one of the most common materials on the earth, unlike fossil fuels or lithium, there will be no concern for shortage.
Our business is to manufacture Shuttle-SOFC devices for electrical cars (EVs) and various energy storage systems (ESSs). The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) expects that at least 20% of the cars sold in Japan will be electric in 2030. And the market for ESS is expected to grow to $1,750M in 2020. Our ultimate business goal is to provide stable and sustainable energy solution at global level.

AyoxxA

AyoxxA is a start-up company commercializing a novel technology platform developed at the National University of Singapore. This platform enables the measurement of a large number of different proteins and biomolecular analytes from a very small volume sample – so called “multiplexing” . In the field of genomic analysis, DNA microarrays have become a powerful tool. Yet, despite a rapidly growing multi-billion US$ market for protein analysis, comparable tools are not available at the protein level. AyoxxA addresses this need for multiplexed protein analysis with its platform technology of bead-based protein microarrays on a substrate biochip. This technology will benefit many disciplines, including biological research, pharmacological screening and medical diagnostics.

AyoxxA raised a Series A investment round of 4 Million US$ with several international venture capital companies as well as 1 Million US$ in grants in 2012. For 2013 AyoxxA is looking forward to closing a significantly larger multi-million US$ Series B investment.

AsukaLab was launched from the University of Tokyo in Japan. Based on the Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) technology of the university, we are developing Head-Mounted Display (HMD) specific virtual tour guide system. Just looking through the special goggle, you can appreciate 360-degree interactive 3D view of ancient landscape on historical site via our mobile audiovisual guide. Large screen and head-tracking function of HMD are of great advantages over existing mobile AR app on iPhone or Android. Our market is the tourism industry and customers are mainly local government at present. Though our initial source of income is customized software development, we are planning to introduce a revenue share solution to the local tourism market. We believe that our state-of-the-art mobile HMD can replace traditional audio guide service and that will be the world standard of tourist information system.
