Clearbridge BioMedics Pte Ltd is a National University of Singapore spin-off company that is developing the next generation of cancer diagnostic tests using cutting edge microfluidics technology.

Building on years of research by Professor Lim Chwee Teck from the Department of Bioengineering, Clearbridge BioMedics has developed a microfluidic biochip that can capture rare Circulating Tumour Cells (CTCs) using agnostic and label-free methods. Such approaches are key to the accurate detection of CTCs as the current methods using cell surface biomarkers and antibodies are potentially too specific. Cancer cells can undergo rapid genetic changes, leading to varying cell surface antigen expression and this could lead to incomplete detection of CTCs when antibody based methods are used. The use of CTCs in a rapid, point-of-care liquid biopsy will pave the way to improved cancer detection assays, and revolutionize cancer management.
