Asian Entrepreneurship Award 2013 has selected one or more members from each of 12 Asian countries/regions to form “Asian Entrepreneurship Award 2013 -Nominating Committee” (Chairman: Prof. Shigeo Kagami, the University of Tokyo).
Shigeo KAGAMI Chairman
(Professor, General Manager – Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Science Entrepreneurship, Division of University Corporate Relations (DUCR), The University of Tokyo, Japan)Dr. Kagami is a graduate of Hitotsubashi University (BA in Commerce, 1982), and gained his MBA from IMD (Lausanne Switzerland, 1989), and completed his doctoral work in corporate governance at Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University (2000).
Before he joined The University of Tokyo, Dr. Kagami was a consultant at Boston Consulting Group (1982-1986), a founding partner of Corporate Directions Inc. (CDI, 1986-1997), and Partner of Heidrick & Struggles International (2000-2002). At The University of Tokyo, he became Associate Professor, Pharmaco-Business Innovation Course at Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and he had been Professor and General Manager – Science Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (SEED), Division of University Corporate Relations (DUCR) from 2004 until the end of March 2013. Professor Kagami has become General Manger of the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, a newly created organization as a merger of two offices at DUCR; Office of Development of Collaborative Research and Office of SEED.
Professor Kagami’s responsibilities include 1) Development of large scale research collaboration projects with the industry for innovation,
2) Entrepreneurship education program and student business plan competition for the University, 3) Management of incubation facilities for university start-ups, 4) Relationship management with The University of Tokyo Edge Capital (UTEC) as a board member, and 5) Consulting and mentoring for the University researchers and students for their startups initiatives.
Ahmed Razman ABDUL LATIFF

He holds a Bachelor Degree of Accounting and Finance (Honours) from Lancaster University, United Kingdom, a Master Degree of Accounting from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and a Master Research Degree in Accounting and Financial Management from Lancaster University, United Kingdom. He also holds a PhD in Corporate Governance from Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom. Ahmed Razman has presented and published numerous papers at various conferences and journals. His current areas of research interest include entrepreneurship, innovation, corporate governance, ethics and human governance.
Antonio Mendoza DEL CARMEN
(Vice President, National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) Program; Director / Professor, Master in Entrepreneurship Ateneo de Manila University Graduate School of Business, Southeast Asia)Dr. Antonio M. del Carmen has been an educator since 1998. Currently, he is the CEO/President of STI College Santa Rosa Inc. and the Program Director for Ateneo de Manila University Graduate School of Business’ program on Master in Entrepreneurship. He is very much involved in various education associations where he actively contributes in formulating and strategizing educational reforms for the Philippines. Before his involvement in education, Dr. Del Carmen was already engaged in information technology through Prime Infoserve Network Corporation, a business process outsourcing company and manages the family-owned real estate company, Philpro Management and Development Corporation. Concurrently, Dr. Del Carmen is the Vice President of the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) which is an alliance of ICT Councils from the different provinces and cities of the Philippines. NICP is the primary private sector partner of the government in the Smarter Countryside for a Smarter Philippines Program.
Katsuya HASEGAWA
(Project Professor, The University of Tokyo, Japan)Katsuya HASEGAWA has been a Project Professor at the University of Tokyo since 2009. He started his professional career as an LSI engineer at Panasonic in 1982. He became one of the founding members of Panasonic Ventures, a corporate VC arm of Panasonic in Silicon Valley in 1996. He left Panasonic in 2002 and became Managing Director of Venture Connection, LLC until he joined Waseda University in 2005 as a professor. He holds a BS and an MS in Applied Physics from the University of Tokyo. He was a visiting scholar at Stanford University between 1990 and 1992.
Guan HUANG

Masaru Vic MURAI
(President, TX Entrepreneur Partners, Japan)Graduated from UCLA Anderson (MBA) in 1962 and joined IBM Corporation in New York. After he moved to IBM Japan in late 1963, he developed the first on-line banking terminals and its system for Japanese market in 1964. In 1980, he was appointed as Director of large account sales in IBM America/Far East Corporation in New York.
IBM America/Far East: covers Canada, Latin America, Oceania and Asian Countries as its territory.
After he retired IBM Japan as General Manager of communication products and service, he joined to create a subsidiary of Compaq Computer Corporation in Japan and became CEO and President of Compaq KK. While he worked as President of Compaq KK, he was nominated as Chairman of Foreign Information Industry Forum and Governor of American Chamber of Commerce Japan. After he retired from Chairman of Compaq KK, he joined General Atlantic Partners LLC as special advisor.
He was also appointed as Chief of Judges, Entrepreneur of the Year Japan Program in 2001, 2002 and 2003. He took several advisory positions of Japanese Corporations and Organization, such as NEC, Toyo Engineering Corp. OMG and Ichiryu Association. He has been also a board member of various corporations e.g. Toyo Business Engineering KK, Intellectual Capital Management Group KK, Net Learning Corporation and E-Support Link KK.

Thuy Thu NGUYEN
(Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Dean of Faculty of Business Administration, Foreign Trade University, Vietnam)Associate Professor NGUYEN THU THUY (PhD, Erasmus University) is Dean of Faculty of Business Administration, Head of Financial Management Division, Faculty of Business Administration, Foreign Trade University (Hanoi, Vietnam). Dr. Thuy got her PhD in Finance from Rotterdam School of Management (Erasmus University, Rotterdam, the Netherlands). Dr. Thuy is associate professor of economics, senior lecturer of Corporate Finance, Managerial Finance, Investment Management & Analysis, Problems in Financial Management, Project Management, Integrated Business, and Business Analysis. She is also a visiting lecturer at various universities around Vietnam, including Vietnam National University, CFVG, and others. She is trainer and consultant of finance issues for various groups and corporations in Vietnam, e.g., PVFC, GAET, Viettel... Dr. Thuy also acts as local consultant for various educational capacity-building projects of Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (BCEP, TBS2, HEP2). Dr. Thuy has published extensively in academic journals, both locally and internationally. She has also presented her research in various international conferences, including EFA and EFMA. Dr.Thuy’s research interests include empirical corporate finance, capital structure, risk management, venture capital, economic growth and finance, international finance, emerging markets.
As a lecturer in students' affairs office of Tsinghua University, Dr. Ni Jie is the deputy director of Youth League of Tsinghua. He received his Bachelor and Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Tsinghua University. He is now in charge of student entrepreneurship education in Tsinghua. As one of the main proponents, he founded the “Public-benefit Entrepreneurship Practice Competition” in 2009, which had grown to be a competition covering the whole China. Besides, he organizes tens of entrepreneurship education activities each year, such as “Intel - Tsinghua Technology Entrepreneurship Summer Campus for National University Students”, “Business Plan Competition of Tsinghua University”, etc.
Guhesh RAMANATHAN
(Chief Operating Officer, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, India)Guhesh Ramanathan serves as the Chief Operating Officer of NSRCEL.
He has earlier served as independent director/strategic advisor for many start-ups in domains that span mobility services, education and measurement of ability, clean energy, eco-tourism, technology and social entrepreneurship. From an early career in IT (IDM, WIPRO and Digital Equipment Corporation) he moved into full-time entrepreneurship in 1994. He has previously held leadership roles at entrepreneurial organizations such as TVA Infotech, help.com, and at the Professional Aptitude Council (PAC).
Guhesh is a graduate in electrical engineering from IIT (BHU) Varanasi and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM Bangalore.

Kensei SUMITA
(Associate Professor UIC, Osaka University Office for University-Industry Collaboration, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hongkong, Korea, Singapore, Thai and Vietnam)Mr. Sumita joined Osaka University’s Office for University-Industry Collaboration in April 2004. He worked in Business Development, responsible for the commercialization of technologies from the fields of physical sciences and life sciences, responsible for building joint research with a focus on technology development between Osaka University and electric, chemical, construction and shipbuilding company. In 2008-2009, he experienced the commercialization of all technologies as Industry-University-Government collaboration coordinator at The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology in Japan and The University of Tokyo. He assisted in the formation of 12 startup companies during 9 years.
Prior to Osaka University, Mr. Sumita had built up expertise in EPC Business and Business Development through his experience of works at Tyco Flow Control. He received a MS in Maritime Science from Kobe University and a BS in Earth Science from Osaka Prefecture University.
Anthony E. TAN

Mr. Anthony E. Tan has been the Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) since April 2008.
Mr. Tan oversees the development and management of HKSTPC in its mission to provide the world-class infrastructure and services for Hong Kong to become a regional hub of innovation and technology. In this capacity, Mr. Tan leads and manages Hong Kong Science Park, InnoCentre and three Industrial Estates that are entities within HKSTPC.
Before assuming his current role, Mr. Tan also served on the board of HKSTPC from May 2001 to June 2006 and the board of Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute from May 2000 to October 2006.
Mr. Tan has more than 35 years of experience in general management, marketing, strategic planning and technological development. He spent 33 years with DuPont where he helped establish the company’s strong business profiles in Asia-Pacific and global markets. His responsibilities covered a wide range of product lines from chemicals and synthetic fibres, to electronic imaging and medical products. Mr. Tan began his career with DuPont in the US before returning to Asia in the mid 80s, thereafter becoming a pioneer in establishment of DuPont’s China operations.
Prior to joining HKSTPC, Mr. Tan was Corporate Services Director of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) between 2006 and 2008. He was responsible for legal, human resource and administrative duties as well as improvements in management process.
Richard TAN
(Chief Executive, InnoSpace@Knowledge & Innovation Community, Global)Richard Tan is the General Manager with SHUI ON Group, and the Chief Executive of Shanghai TUSPark (KIC) Management Company. Part of the core team to develop a new product line for the Group – Knowledge Community (KC), Mr Tan is directly responsible to create a robust and vibrant enterprise business ecosystem within the Community. He has also put in place a total solution set-up, ranging from providing talent solutions to enterprise solutions and even international business connectivity. Such initiatives successfully positioned Shui On Knowledge Community as the most effective launch-pads into China.
Mr Tan’s key responsibilities also include building up the Knowledge Community for the US$4.3 bn Dalian Tiandi project in Dalian. This is a 3.6 million square meters integrated mixed use development comprising of software offices, retail malls, hotels, residential, international schools, parks and gardens.
Mr Tan is also charged of establishing International Strategic Partnerships for the Group. He has helped set up SHUI ON’s first overseas center in USA. Some of the strategic partners formed by Mr Tan also include Mitsui Fudosan in Japan, Cyberport in Hong Kong, Dongguk University in Korea, Los Angeles Economic Development Council, and ChinaSF in USA.
Prior to joining the SHUI ON Group, Mr Tan was the Vice Consul for the Singapore Consulate in Mumbai, India. He was double-heading as the Regional Director for the Singapore Economic Development Board.
Chao - Tung WEN

His main research interests are science & technology studies, entrepreneurial & incubation management. Since 1995, he has served as reviewer of the planning and the evaluation board of the incubator for ITRI and SMEA. Recently, he is also reviewer of Digital content, strategic service program, future imagination, among many initiatives. On the top of more than 100 conference papers, and academic journal.
Prof. Wen’s books include "Taiwan Business History", "Does Family Business Still Matter?", "Nurturing a Venture Seed", "The Application of Innovation Model in Government", "Frontier Entrepreneur : Full Life Story of Chun-Hsiung Wen, a pioneer in Taiwan advertising business", and "Corporate Environmental Management". He frequently contributes articles in column of various Business newspaper & magazine. He also wrote recommendation / Book critics for over 70 innovation related books.
Prof. Chao-Tung Wen obtained his MBA in Marketing from University of Rochester, New York, in 1977, and Ph.D. in Urban and Environmental Studies from Renssslaer Polytechnic Institute, New York. In 1994, He also was a visiting research in Oxford Institute of Retail Management for 8 months in 1991. He awarded as the Fellow of Chinese Society for Management of Technology in 2008.
Totok Hari WIBOWO
(DR, The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Indonesia)With a doctorate degree in Management of Technology, DR Totok Hari Wibowo engages in policy design and execution of crash program on the development of technology based SMEs with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs. Prior to this involvement, DR Totok Hari Wibowo was member of the National Team for Technopreneurship Development and Chief Engineer for the implementation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Innovation Centre (SMEIC) with Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology, during which he was also Senior Researcher and Deputy Assistant for Technology Policy Assessment with the Agency. Being Senior Researcher with the Agency, he has directed major policy advisory and research teams, most on aspects of setting up SMEIC and action plan for technology diffusion. In distant past, he has been working on development strategy for 13 Eastern Provinces of Indonesia, especially on the formation of economic development clusters and transition from a controlled to a market economy. He has been working in the Netherlands, Japan, and Indonesia.
Professor Wong Poh Kam is a Professor at the NUS Business School where he teaches entrepreneurship and innovation strategy with a special focus on Asia. He is also Professor (by courtesy) at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. He obtained two BSc.’s., an MSc. and a Ph.D. from MIT. He has published extensively in leading international referred journals on technology entrepreneurship and innovation policy, and has consulted widely for international agencies such as the World Bank, OECD and Asian Development Bank, and various STI policy-related government agencies in Singapore such as A*STAR, EDB, SPRING and NRF. Besides his academic position, he is also concurrently the Director of NUS Entrepreneurship Centre, where he spearheads the university’s entrepreneurship education program and the NUS Enterprise Incubator (NEI), which provides various support services to start-ups by NUS professors, students and alumni, including incubation space, seed funding and mentoring. He was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at U.C. Berkeley and a visiting scholar at Stanford University.
An entrepreneur who co-founded three companies prior to joining academia, he has been an active angel investor with investment in over a dozen high tech start-ups in Singapore, Silicon Valley, China and India. He is the founding chairman of Business Angel Network (Southeast Asia) and BAF Spectrum Pte Ltd, an angel investment fund co-invested in by the Singapore government through SPRING SEEDS Capital. He was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) by the Singapore Government in 2005.
With extensive experiences in sales and marketing, I was driven by the opportunity to be a startup entrepreneur. I found Fu-Yih Enterprise Co., Ltd. In 2007, engaged in manufacturing and distributing waterproof PVC canvas. I am also directly involved with the IMBA program at Thammasat Business school creating Thailand's very own breed of entrepreneurs, or in our context, Change Makers thus promoting the entrepreneurship environment here in the region.
