“Kashiwa-no-ha Campus” has an unusually high potential for innovations, with the University of Tokyo Kashiwa Campus Area, Chiba University Kashiwa-no-ha Campus Area, National Cancer Center Hospital East and incubation facilities. There are innovative urban development projects already implemented in the area as well with close collaboration among the public, private and academic sectors which is beyond the conventional framework. “Kashiwa-no-ha Campus” was formally selected as one of five cities to be supported by Japanese government “Future City Initiative” in December 2011 after Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture, suggested “Kashiwa-no-ha Campus” as “Innovative City for New Industries”.

Combining technology and knowledge to address problems: Future Design Center

In “Kashiwa-no-ha Campus”, Future Design Center Incorporated Association [FDC] was founded under the leadership of Mr. Hiroshi Komiyama, the former president of the University of Tokyo, to address various problems such as problems of environment and resource, food supply, medical care and education. FDC aims to combine the leading technology and knowledge from Japan and overseas to suggest advanced models of solutions to these problems. Since its foundation, FDC has been seeking advanced models to solve various problems including environmental and agricultural problems.
In the Award, we aspire to find activities of entrepreneurs having foresight to determine front-line demand, motivation, and ability and working unflinchingly to realize innovations in various areas related to FDC’s mission. We aim to build a platform for creating environment and human resources which will construct the Asian economy in the future.
